Did you know Paul Mitchell (famous for Paul Mitchell systems among other things) makes pet care products, too? Well they do, and the products are awesome. I received a free John Paul Pet Care 3-Pack in exchange for a review with my honest thoughts and opinions of John Paul Pet.
My “reviewer” of the product is my 1-year old Beagle Tiberius. He was in desperate need of a bath, but he also just went to the vet and was diagnosed with seasonal allergies and a double ear infection. Poor little guy was definitely in need of some pampering. The 3-pack I received comes with Ear and Eye Wipes, Shampoo, and Conditioner. The first thing I decided to try were the ear wipes because in addition to giving him medicine, I need to clean Tiberius’s ears nightly.
I love that the wipes do not have an overpowering smell. A lot of wipes or ear cleaners I’ve tried in the past made me feel sick because I am very sensitive to smells. Honestly, I expected Tiberius to hate the ear wipes not because of the product, but because he is usually really upset about anyone messing with his ears. Especially understandable when they’re all gunky (ew) and hurting.
To my surprise, he loved the John Paul Pet wipes and is still enjoying them! I gently massaged his ear with the wipe, and all of the nastiness came off onto the wipe. I was amazed at how much the wipe cleaned out of his ear, and the wipes continue to keep his ears clean. He did not act like the wipe stung or hurt him at all which was very important to me because he had little scratches in his ears from where he’d scratched himself too hard while itching.
I also tried the wipes on my 3-year old Bichon Frise Charlotte’s tear stains. Charlotte often has brown stains near her eyes (called tear stains, they’re very common with the Bichon Frise). The wipes worked great and removed a lot of the brown. I didn’t see total improvement with one use, but I am guessing I’d have to use them daily to keep the stains away.
One of my favorite things about the Shampoo and Conditioner I received is the scent. The Oatmeal smells really yummy, and isn’t too strong. I used the Shampoo first, and then let Tiberius partially air dry before combing the leave-in Conditioner through his hair. I thought this Shampoo and Conditioner would be great for Tiberius because of his newly discovered allergies and long-standing sensitive skin. The little guy has always had sensitive skin! Not sure which Shampoo is right for your pet? John Paul Pet has a handy chart to figure out which one to try.
Before bath time I combed Tiberius to remove any hair he was about to shed (hence the black hair all over the tub). I feel like the Shampoo lathered great, and did get Mr. Tiberius clean. The Shampoo smells best after the bath because let’s be realistic during bath time you have a combination of Oatmeal and wet dog. Wet dog almost never smells good, but the Oatmeal does help mask it! Afterwards though Tiberius smelled amazing.
He didn’t seem to mind the Shampoo too much which was great because traditionally Tiberius has not been a bath fan. After his bath, I felt like Tiberius’s chest looked less red than it did when I started. Next, I added the leave-in Conditioner by combing it through his fur. I was very happy with the results, the Conditioner left his coat shiny, and healthy looking.
In conclusion, for approximately $25 I think the 3-pack is a great purchase. In the past, I’ve spent $10-15 alone on a sensitive skin shampoo for my dogs at a big box pet store, so to get three essential products for $30 or under is a bargain. This product also comes from a company with values. John Paul Pet supports numerous animal welfare organizations, and also maintains a commitment to “test on humans first.” It’s safe to say that Tiberius loves his John Paul Pet products, and so do I.
